Traditional Mediterranean Interior Design
in Windmill Ranches Estates, Weston

This Traditional Mediterranean interior design project in Windmill Ranch Estates, Weston, Florida, was created for Miami Marlins player Hanley Ramirez. The design reflects authentic Mediterranean home décor inspired by classic Mizner-style architecture, blending Old World craftsmanship with refined luxury.

Mizner-Style Mediterranean Architecture
& Interior Design

The client requested an interior decorator with expertise in Traditional Mediterranean interior design and the architectural influence of Addison Mizner. The goal was to create interiors that complement the home’s Mediterranean architecture while enhancing functionality and visual balance.

Traditional Mediterranean
Dining Room Design

In Mediterranean interior design, each room must incorporate architectural presence and visual harmony. Dining rooms, in particular, should provide a striking focal point that can be appreciated from every seat at the table, creating an elegant and immersive dining experience for guests.

This Traditional Mediterranean dining room demonstrates the strategic use of architectural detailing and decorative finishes. The design incorporates flanking coral rock columns at the entryway, establishing an authentic Mediterranean architectural framework.
Old World faux-finished arches and distressed plaster walls were added to enhance the historic European aesthetic, creating depth, texture, and timeless character throughout the space.

My interior design inspiration was drawn from a Mediterranean-style mosaic medallion crafted from small semi-precious stones, positioned as the focal point within the Trompe l’oeil arch.

Custom Drapery inTraditional Mediterranean Dining Room

I designed luxurious crushed blue velvet drapery to frame the French doors, mounted on custom brackets that echo the chandelier’s antique gold acanthus leaf detailing and integrated within the surrounding Trompe l’oeil arch.

To introduce a more Modern Mediterranean aesthetic, I incorporated large beveled mirror panels within the niche and installed coordinating antique gold acanthus leaf sconces. The mirrored niche enhances the dining room décor by adding sparkle, increasing light reflection, and visually expanding the space while showcasing the surrounding architecture.

Custom Architectural Details & Old World Finishes

I often explain to clients that the ceiling should be treated as the fifth wall, while the floor becomes the sixth design surface. Opportunities to coordinate both with complementary patterns are rare and architecturally impactful.

A signature element in many of my interior architectural designs is the use of rectangular forms with inverted rounded corners. In this dining room, I repeated this motif by detailing the ceiling soffit with individual gold-leaf squares and raised plaster accents at each inverted corner. This design is balanced by flooring composed of natural stone tile inlays framed by rich, dark wood, creating cohesion between the ceiling and floor while reinforcing the room’s architectural symmetry.
