A Design Philosophy Balancing Architecture and Interior Design

People often ask me when I knew I wanted to become an interior designer. Looking back, the answer began long before I ever considered it a career.

Growing up in Fort Lauderdale, my family spent Sunday afternoons touring new model homes. While most children saw beautiful rooms, I became fascinated by how architecture, light, furnishings, and color worked together to tell a story. At home, I'd recreate those spaces using shoe boxes, magazine cutouts, and construction paper, unknowingly beginning a lifelong passion for design.

That passion led me to study architectural design throughout high school before pursuing Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley, where I developed an appreciation for the relationship between architecture and interiors. Returning to South Florida, I helped design my family's home at Ocean Reef Club and began creating hand-painted trompe-l'œil murals. One referral led to another, and over the past thirty years I've been fortunate to design luxury homes throughout South Florida, helping clients create interiors that are personal, timeless, and deeply connected to the way they live.

My Design Philosophy

Every successful project begins with listening. I take the time to ask thoughtful questions, understand how my clients live, and learn what inspires them. A beautifully designed home should reflect the people who live there—their lifestyle, personality, and the memories they want to create—not simply the latest design trends.

I believe exceptional interiors begin with exceptional architecture. The architectural style of a home should establish the foundation for every design decision, from space planning and custom cabinetry to lighting, materials, furnishings, and architectural details. With more than thirty years of experience in luxury residential interior design and home remodeling, I work closely with architects, builders, and skilled craftsmen to ensure every element feels cohesive and intentional.

My goal is to create timeless interiors that balance proportion, natural light, comfort, and craftsmanship. Whether designing a Mediterranean Revival estate, a Modern Coastal residence, or a Mid-Century Modern home, I strive to create spaces that feel authentic to the architecture while reflecting each client's unique vision and way of living. Great design isn't about following trends—it's about creating a home that remains beautiful, functional, and deeply personal for years to come.

Collaborating Through Design-Build

Some of my most rewarding projects are those where I collaborate with our in-house architectural team or work alongside a client's architect through our Design-Build program. Integrating architecture, interior design, and remodeling from the very beginning creates a seamless process, allowing every detail to work together as one cohesive vision while simplifying communication throughout the project.
