Designing a Modern Bahamas-West Indies Home
on the Fort Lauderdale Intracoastal

Nestled along the Fort Lauderdale Intracoastal waterway, this newly constructed custom home embodies a style I affectionately call "Modern Bahamas - West Indies." Working alongside my client and their architect, we brought to life a vision that combines the relaxed elegance of Bahamian charm with the understated sophistication of the West Indies aesthetic. Inspired by the tropical beauty of Ocean Reef Club, this home’s architecture merges coastal tranquility with luxurious finishes that cater to modern living.

Embracing the West Indies Aesthetic

This waterfront home masterfully blends classic West Indies architecture with colonial influences, designed to enhance the natural connection between indoor and outdoor living. The crisp white exterior is elevated with modern elongated corbels, refined architectural trim, and intricately detailed window sills. A grand stone-clad entrance framed by transom style windows create a classic feeling, while traditional Bahama shutter above infuses the facade with tropical charm and coastal sophistication.

Inside, expansive open floor plans embrace the breezy spirit of island living, seamlessly extending toward breathtaking Intracoastal views. Timeless materials such as bamboo, natural wood, and stone are thoughtfully balanced with clean lines and contemporary finishes, creating a harmonious interplay between relaxed island style and modern refinement.

This design is perfect for those seeking a serene coastal retreat that feels both luxurious and lived-in. By merging natural textures with elegant architectural details, the result is a timeless aesthetic that evokes the warmth of the tropics and the clarity of contemporary design—an atmosphere as inviting as a sea breeze and as enduring as the shoreline.
