50’s Mid-Century Interior Design & Kitchen Remodel within this Fort Lauderdale / Wilton Manors Home
Mid-Century Interior Design & Architecture
continues to be alive and well
Fort Lauderdale’s Mid-century interior design and architecture epitomizes a blend of sleek modernism and tropical influences. Characterized by clean lines, organic shapes, and harmonious integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, these interiors often featured wood ceilings, large windows inviting natural light, and lush greenery views.
The color palette is vibrant yet balanced, blending earthy tones and pops of bright colors like teal, rust, and blue. Natural materials such as wood and stone complement the minimalist furniture with geometric forms and tapered legs.
Furniture design was minimalist and functional, with pieces that showcased the era’s love for geometric forms and tapered legs.
The overall aesthetic was one of casual elegance, ideally suited to the relaxed, sun-soaked lifestyle of Fort Lauderdale during this iconic era.
Imagine a Kitchen Remodel that blends the clean lines of
Mid-Century Modern with Contemporary touches.
Inspired by the natural wood ceiling, the space features sleek, flat-panel custom cabinetry in sun-bleached driftwood, evoking mid-century organic charm. The custom cabinets extend to the ceiling, providing ample storage while maintaining a streamlined look. Cream quartz countertops provide a crisp contrast, enhancing the room's brightness and complementing the overall design.
A central island is accented with espresso wood cabinetry and topped with a polished granite countertop, creating a focal point for meal prep and casual dining.
A minimalist backsplash with a contemporary oversized aqua-blue subway tile enhances the space, while stainless steel and black appliances blend seamlessly into the design.
The old wood and tile flooring has been updated to contemporary oversized porcelain tile with a coral rock pattern adding a fresh, modern touch to the classic mid-century aesthetic.
To complete the look, a few carefully chosen mid-century modern furniture pieces, such as Eames-inspired bar stools, add the final touch.
The result is a timeless and contemporary kitchen
with a perfect balance of warmth, functionality, and style.
The open-concept dining area exudes warmth with a rustic wood table that harmonizes with the natural wood ceiling. Black Eames-inspired chairs and a substantial black credenza ground the space. A large artwork featuring a golden shell on a black background is elegantly flanked by black and brass sconces, adding a sophistication to the space.

The master bathroom showcases a sleek, modern-contemporary design, reimagining the timeless 1950s Mid-Century black-and-white theme.

The bold contrast adds depth and a touch of retro elegance, creating a sophisticated, stylish atmosphere.
1950s Mid-Century Modern Bathroom with a South Florida Decor
Our inspiration for this Mid-Century bathroom starts with the striking Johnathan Adler bamboo and teal green mirror (Link), which also serves as a design element for the ceiling, infusing the space with a South Florida tropical vibe.
The classic black-and-white basket weave floor tile ties back to the master bathroom. In contrast, the woodwork, featuring inlaid tile with a bamboo texture and dimensional palm leaf wallpaper, enhances the room’s tropical aesthetic.
These elements create a harmonious blend of Mid-Century modern style and vibrant, nature-inspired decor.
Unique Tropical Guest Bathroom
This guest bathroom exudes a serene tropical vibe with its thoughtful design details. A built-in niche, illuminated by LED lighting, showcases striking metallic Koi fish wallpaper framed by dark moldings, creating a bold focal point. Aqua blue basketweave wallpaper adds a calming touch. At the same time, the gold of the Koi fish is echoed in the shimmering gold mica wallpaper, beautifully highlighted by the warm glow of a Capa shell chandelier. The combination of textures and tones brings the space a luxurious, tropical elegance.
