Interior Design of an Ocean Reef Club Vacation Home: Modern British Colonial
with Bahamian Island Decor

I received a call from a woman named Carmen, who had just purchased a condo at Ocean Reef Club and was seeking an interior decorator. Her sweet, youthful voice instantly drew me in, though she assured me she was a grandmother. We were both eager to meet and when I arrived, she greeted me with a warm hug. By the end of our meeting, she gave me a deposit, and we both knew there was an undeniable karmic connection. That moment marked the beginning of a memorable journey together.

As with most of my clients, Carmen was very trusting, and I shared with her my deep connection to the Modern Coastal Beach style, shaped by years of designing at Ocean Reef Club and growing up in Fort Lauderdale.

Inspired by the ocean view from her condo, I turned to one of my favorite nature-inspired color palettes: sandy beige, aqua blue, and bright coral. This combination perfectly captures the essence of the beach, creating a serene and vibrant atmosphere. I love using silver accents reminiscent of the sun’s reflection off the ocean to enhance the look, adding a subtle touch of elegance.

Architectural Elements

I love to create simple architectural elements by incorporating large-scale artwork framed from floor to ceiling, enhanced with gallery lighting. This approach adds drama and sophistication to any space while keeping the design clean and focused on the art.

I had my heart set on using a stunning shell-encrusted entry table with a matching mirror featuring elegant shell-covered scrolls. But, to my disappointment, it was too tall. Sometimes, I must remind clients, "When one item isn’t available, the Universe often brings something even better."

UGGGG! Frustrated, I kept searching, and soon after, I discovered a newly opened furniture distributor. There, I found a breathtaking natural tree root table base with a translucent blue glaze. I paired an original oil painting framed in grand metalwork adorned with sculptural shells, coral, and sea urchins.

The table and artwork balance each other perfectly—fitting the space with not an inch to spare. It was a serendipitous moment and a beautiful reminder that the right pieces always find their way.

Thank You Universe

Simple Coastal Kitchen Remodel

For a quick kitchen remodel, my general contractor added beadboard to the base cabinets and tray ceiling, adding texture and resembling a seaside cottage. We painted the cabinets and ceiling in the same white to match the newly installed baseboards, creating a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.

One of my interior design philosophies is to create consistent architectural elements throughout the home. For example, we have a matching floor-to-ceiling framed artwork that serves as a dramatic focal point, perfectly relating to the ocean view and enhancing the overall harmony of the space.

I love this Modern British Colonial-style bamboo four-poster bed with its white gauze side panels, which remind me of classic mosquito netting. The aqua and green color combination brings a vibrant Bahamas/Caribbean vibe, beautifully complemented by the driftwood-like tile flooring throughout the space.

Our Modern Coastal bedroom features a whimsical fabric that is reminiscent of Old Florida. I loved using the coral from the fabric and rug and placed it on the ceiling -
